Next Wed, 18 Apr sees the opening of LINE at the Little Theatre in Orange St.
LINE is a one act comedy by acclaimed Jewish-American playwright Israel Horovitz (who has written over 70 plays during his career!). This specific play of his owns the title of being the longest running play in New York and it has already been staged in a whopping 25 countries & translated into 35 languages. This will however be the first time that Capetonians get to experience it first hand.
So what exactly is it about? Well the play is basically about 5 people waiting in a queue. None of them seem to know what exactly they are waiting for, but they are all desperate to get first in line. Things really heat up as the audience gets you watch them trying to “outwit, outplay, outlast” (my own little Survivor take ) each other to try get ahead.
Leon Clingman plays ‘Flemming’, a dim-witted baseball fan. ‘Stephen’, played by Bjorn Steinbach, is the flamboyant ‘wanna-be’ genius who always seems to get first in line. Marlisa Doubell portrays ‘Molly’, a woman who uses her sexuality to get ahead, while Gavin Werner plays her tormented husband, ‘Arnall’. The shady ‘Dolan’ is played by Aidan Whytock and award-winning director Yvonne Copley heads up the team as director.
